ASYCUDA - Automated SYstem for CUstoms DAta
In 1981 UNCTAD received a request from
the secretariat of the Economic Community of Western African States
(ECOWAS) to
assist in the compilation of foreign trade statistics in their member
States. After an initial evaluation it became quickly apparent that
this would require the involvement of Customs clearance offices, and the modernization of Customs
clearance procedures, to achieve quality
results.

Zimbabwe becomes the first COMESA country to adopt the AsycudaWorld system.
On the 9th of May 2007, Mr Tichaona g. Chiradza, Deputy Commissioner General of ZIMRA [Zimbabwe Revenue Authority] signed the AsycudaWorld project document during the visit of an UNCTAD delegation to Harare. Zimbabwe was the first country of the region to implement Asycuda++ in 1999 and is migrating to AsycudaWorld with a view to strenghening its e-government strategy"

MOLDOVA – Signature of MOU concerning the development of the Moldavian Integrated Customs Information System (ICIS)
A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) concerning the development of the Moldovian Integrated Customs Information System (ICIS) based on the ASYCUDAWorld software was signed by Ms F. Furculita, Director General of the Customs Service, on behalf of the Moldovan Government and Mr O.Oduyemi, Director of UNCTAD/Division of Management, on behalf of UNCTAD.

Global ASYCUDA user meeting - Geneva, 19 October 2006
This meeting was organised in conjunction with the Expert Meeting on ICT Solutions to Facilitate Trade at Border Crossings and Ports.
During the event, the ASYCUDA-user countries were informed about the strategic developments within the ASYCUDA Programme (Introduction, Challenges for Customs, Status in Africa, Americas, Asia/Pacific, Europe, Middle East, ASYCUDA World) and the software developments that take into consideration the challenges that the Customs Administrations are facing and will continue to face in the 21st century in terms of ICT, Customs techniques and operational procedures and processes (including the World Customs Organisation “Framework of Standards to Secure and Facilitate Global Trade”).
